Patriarch Rahi Warns against Fueling Sectarian Strife

Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rahi considered that the conditions in Syria and Egypt assert the presence of a foreign plot to "destroy the Arab world."

RahiMaronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rahi considered that the conditions in Syria and Egypt assert the presence of a foreign plot to "destroy the Arab world."

"The plot aims at fueling the sectarian strife between the Shiites and the Sunnites for the sake of political and economic interests," the Lebanese Patriarch told Vatican radio station.

"Some of these western and eastern forces are stirring the disputes. The coexistence with the Muslims that the Christians have been preserving for 1400 years is being destroyed," Patriarch Rahi said.

"The Christians are paying the price for the foreign intervention in Syria and Egypt," he added.

"In Egypt, one of the Arab forces supported the Muslim Brotherhood financially to control power," Rahi noted, without naming the force.

Patriarch Rahi further accused the international community of sticking to silence towards what is happening in Iraq as 1.5 million Christian escaped from the country.
