Nigeria blastAt least 10 people were killed Monday afternoon in two separate suicide attacks in Nigeria's northeastern town of Potiskum in Yobe state, according to a local medic.

"There were two suicide attacks... Ten people died in all. Eight on Gashuwa road and two at Dorowa Ma shaya," Bala Afuwa, a medical doctor and emergency worker, told Anadolu Agency by phone.

He said both blasts occurred minutes apart around 1:00 pm Nigerian time.

No organization claimed responsibility for the blasts, but immediate suspicion fell on Boko Haram terrorist group, which has waged a six-year insurgency in the region.

The bombings come a day after several militants were killed on Sunday in a foiled attack on Babangida town, also in Yobe state, according to the Nigerian army.

"Scores of heavily armed terrorists, using women and children as shields, died on Sunday when they attacked Babangida town in Yobe state," the Nigerian defense headquarters said via Twitter on Monday afternoon, adding that "one soldier and a vigilante member, however, died while five others were wounded during the encounter."
