A veteran Egyptian journalist and author says that Iran’s “legendary resistance” against US pressure earned it a “nuclear agreement,” and that Saudi Arabia and its allies are incapable of sabotaging it.

Mohammad Hassanein Haykal told Lebanese daily Assafir on Monday that “this country (Iran) managed to strike a nuclear agreement with the Western powers, including the US, through its legendary resistance,” adding that, “Saudi Arabia and [Persian] Gulf regional states are too weak to raise rebellion against the nuclear agreement and overshadow it.”

The comments follow the recent conclusion of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

The senior Egyptian journalist further noted that, “Iran is the only regional country to resist against America,” adding elsewhere in his remarks that, “What has changed the conditions was Iran’s resistance, not [US President] Barack Obama.”
