A roadside bomb struck a police vehicle near a town in the Sinai Peninsula Thursday, killing a policeman and wounding two others, the interior ministry said.

The Takfiri group, ISIL’s (so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Levant) Egypt affiliate has claimed regular attacks on security forces, who have struggled to quell the insurgency in the peninsula.

The interior ministry said the bomb killed a police captain, and wounded a sergeant and a conscript, on a road leading to provincial capital El-Arish.

The Takfiris have killed hundreds of soldiers and policemen since the army ousted Muslim Brotherhood’s president Mohamed Mursi in 2013 and unleashed a deadly crackdown on his supporters.

They also claimed to have downed the Russian Metrojet A-321 plane over the Sinai on October 31, killing all 224 people on board, after smuggling a bomb on board at an Egyptian airport.
