"The government and nation of Turkey has always clearly supported the nuclear positions of the Islamic republic of Iran, and will continue to firmly follow the same policy in the future," Erdogan was quoted as saying in the statement issued by Ahmadinejad's office.

Ahmadinejad thanked Turkey for its "clear and frank" stance on the issue, the statement added. The exchange occurred on the last day of a two-day visit Erdogan was making to Iran to discuss the nuclear issue and bilateral ties.

The Turkish prime minister was to hold talks later Thursday with Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, before flying home.

Also on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi announced a date for nuclear talks with world powers on April 13.

Turkey has offered to host the talks and the location will be decided in the next few days, Salehi said.
"I had consultations in South Korea with Iran's counterpart in the talks," Erdogan said referring to nuclear summit in Seoul Sunday, according to IRNA.

"And we are awaiting results of these consultations and their views. Our intention is to help the process of these talks", Erdogan said adding that Turkey had proposed hosting talks in Istanbul.
