At least five Ivorian policemen were shot dead Wednesday in Abidjan's Abobo district, police source said.

The Abobo district is known to be largely loyal to the defiant man Laurent Gbagbo’s rival, the internationally recognized President, Alassane Ouattara.
Five police died after being "attacked with heavy weaponry," in the northern neighborhood, the source told AFP, asking not to be named.

Witnesses told AFP that gunfire was heard during the night and on Wednesday morning in the neighbourhood that is largely loyal to Gbagbo's internationally recognised presidential rival, Alassane Ouattara.

Two civilians and two police died in the district on Tuesday after hundreds of Gbagbo's Defence and Security Forces (FDS) as well as armoured personnel carriers deployed in the tense neighbourhood.
Ivory Coast witnesses since last November presidential crisis with the two men, Gbagbo and Ouattra claimed victory in the vote.
