A British TV channel said Tuesday it would broadcast the Muslim call to prayer throughout the fasting month of Ramadan.
A British TV channel announced Tuesday that it would broadcast the Muslim call to prayer throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
Starting from July 9, Channel 4 will cut into its schedule to show the three-minute Adhan live.
The station's website will further play automatically at prayer times throughout the day.
A number of Ramadan-themed programs will be also broadcast starting from July 8.
Each morning's call to prayer will be followed by a short film of two to three minutes, titled "Ramadan Reflections."
The channel considered that this move targets those who accuse Islam of extremism, in an attempt to change such a view.
The Muslim Council of Britain praised the channel's move and considered that "it is not only symbolic for belonging and solidarity, but will hopefully help to portray a more realistic account of Islam and Muslims as well."
