Turkey recalled on Wednesday the charge d'affaires of the American embassy, Jess Baily, over claims that Washington spied on a number of embassies and missions including Turkey's, according to the foreign ministry.
"Turkey required an explanation from the number two diplomat, who was invited to the foreign ministry in the American ambassador's absence," the ministry said in a statement.
"The move comes after Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davut Oglu met with US Secretary of State John Kerry in Brunei on the sidelines of an international gathering," the statement added.
The Turkish Foreign ministry considered that the media reports of widespread US bugging of European diplomatic missions raised much concerns.
'An evaluation would be made in light of answers received from US authorities with regard to the claims," it revealed.
The European countries were deeply concerned about the media reports that revealed the American spying operations on the European offices and embassies.
France and Germany have wrathfully demanded answers over the allegations.
US President Barack Obama has not clearly acknowledged any spying by the United States but suggested "intrusion" by the world's intelligence services is widespread.
