The Russian delegation insisted on Wednesday to add number of amendments in the draft resolution on Syria issued by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Itar-Tass news agency reported.
"Amendments proposed by the Russian delegation received support from a number of delegations, especially the British envoy who supported the deletion of an introduction consisting of six items of the document," Valerie Maslen, member of the Russian delegation to 22nd Assembly held in Istanbul, told Itar-Tass.
"As a result, the document has been modified and several items have been deleted that were accusing the regime of Bashar al-Assad," Maslen said.
the Russian diplomat pointed out that the draft resolution has been submitted by the Turkish envoy, which included a number of charges against the Syrian government in committing a number of offenses, including what they claimed "killing of civilians and the use of ballistic missiles."
"The initial text of the draft was calling on President Bashar al-Assad to stop the violence, but the revised document invites both parties to halt violence," he explained.
Maslen also noted that the Russian delegation abstained from voting, although some of the modifications he called for were included.
