Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stressed on Wednesday the Palestinian commitment to non-interference in the internal affairs of regional states, saying that the Palestinian presence in Lebanon is temporary.
During a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart Michel Sleiman, Abbas said that he opposes nationalization of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, indicating that he considers the Palestinian presence in the neighboring country as temporary.
Abbas also ensured the Lebanese President that the Palestinian institutions and organizations, which fall under the PLO banner, will disassociate themselves from any internal conflict in the country.
Turning to the peace process and the efforts of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Abbas said that the Palestinian side presented all the possible facilities for the success of the US diplomat's task, expressing beliefs that the Arab initiative for the Palestinian - Israeli reconciliation adopted in Beirut will be implemented due to the absence of other alternatives.
The Palestinian President visited Lebanon on Wednesday to provide guarantees to the Lebanese authorities that the refugee camps will distance themselves from the internal conflict in Lebanon, and to discuss the status of Palestinian refugees who moved from Syria to Lebanon.
This is the first visit of Abbas to Lebanon after granting Palestine a non-member state representation in the United Nations.
