The demonstrations launched from Bilal bin Rabah mosque, the former complex of Ahmad al-Assir, and headed to al-Karamah roundabout in the southern city.


The fugitive cleric resurfaced an alleged audio message Thursday in which he provoked his supporters to demonstrate.


In Tripoli, the Lebanese army and the security forces heavily deployed and prevented security violations, although some Salafist groups carried out a number of separate sit-ins after Friday's Prayer.


The Lebanese Army launched a wide-scale military operation against the rebellion of al-Assir who was about to ignite civil war among the Lebanese people.
