Oil Prices Fall Slightly on Easing Supply Concerns

Global oil prices fell slightly on Tuesday on easing worries over potential Middle East supply disruptions despite escalating violence in Egypt

Global oil prices fell slightly on Tuesday on easing worries over potential Middle East supply disruptions despite escalating violence in Egypt, analysts said.

Brent North Sea crude for delivery in August dropped 25 cents to $107.18 a barrel in London midday deals. New York's main contract, West Texas Intermediate for August, slipped 19 cents to $102.95 per barrel.

Commerzbank analysts said that "supply risks have been reduced somewhat following the resumption of oil production at an oil field in Libya". They added in a note to clients: "The oil field has a daily production level of 350,000 barrels and had been closed since last week due to a security personnel dispute."

Michael McCarthy, chief market strategist at CMC Markets in Sydney, told AFP that the market was experiencing "a slight technical pullback... after the recent gains." He added: "Egypt pretty much remains in focus, and traders seem to have priced in a further escalation of the current unrest."
