Syrian deputy prime minister Qadri Jamil is to head to Moscow to meet Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov.
The Russian foreign ministry reported that Jamil is to head to Moscow on Monday, but it didn’t disclose further information.
The meeting comes as Moscow and Washington attempt to organize a peace conference between the Syrian government and the foreign-backed armed opposition to end the two-year conflict.
For his part, Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov said Moscow hopes that the international conference would be held in September.
In a statement on Thursday, Bogdanov said that there is likelihood that the conference will be held in September before a UN General Assembly session, expressing Russia's readiness to take part in the conference ''even if it is held tomorrow.''
Bogdanov, also regretted that the Syrian opposition did not signal the same readiness.
