A French man was arrested accused of assaulting a police officer after his wife was stopped for wearing an Islamic veil in public.
Around 250 protesters attacked a police station in the Paris suburb of Trappes Friday night following the arrest of a man who allegedly assaulted a police officer after his wife was stopped for wearing an Islamic veil in public, authorities say.
Around a dozen vans with riot police were deployed to the area, while a helicopter was dispatched to carry out surveillance.
A 14-year-old boy was injured, Prosecutor Vincent Lesclous told reporters.
Four police officers were injured and six people were also detained, an official with the regional police administration told the Associated Press.
France has banned wearing the Islamic Hijab in official departments, universities and schools in a flagrant attck against the Islamic customs and worship.
