Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed called for protecting the religious monuments and places of worship in Syria as they belong to the entire Arab, Islamic and human civilization.

Awqaf ministerAl-Sayyed said during a meeting with journalists Tuesday that the damage caused to the mosque of the Companion of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Khalid Ibn al-Walid, in the city of Homs was promoted by the saboteur and takfiri thinking of the armed terrorist groups that have been following a systematic approach of targeting religious monuments in the country, according to SANA.

The Minister referred to the terrorists' targeting of the Grand Umayyad Mosque in Aleppo and the Omari Mosque in Daraa, in addition to the exhumation of the shrine of Companion Hujr Bin Udai.

In another context, al-Sayyed hailed the decree recently issued by President al-Assad on establishing an alms-giving and charity fund at the Ministry of Awqaf, saying this fund will contribute to reviving the Islamic duty of alms-giving.

He added that the fund provides people who want to give alms and money in charity the right channel to do so according to Islamic Sharia (law), highlighting the importance of this duty in promoting social justice and contributing to economic and social development.
