Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stressed his confidence in achieving victory over military insurgence acting in the country.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stressed his confidence in achieving victory over military insurgence acting in the country, in an Army Day message delivered to the national army and carried by state media on Thursday.
"If we in Syria were not sure of victory, we would not have been able to resist or to persevere in the face of more than two years of aggression," he said.
Saluting the military forces, the Syrian President stated they are "preserving the country, writing the letters of victory and protecting the people and their aspirations."
"I have great faith in you and confidence in your ability to fulfill the national mission that has been assigned to you," Assad told troops in the message.
Addressing the army, the Syrian President underlined that the world has been astonished by its steadfastness in facing terrorism and allies.
"You have shown rare courage in the battle against terrorism and you have impressed the whole world with your resistance... in one of the most brutal and
ferocious wars of modern history," he said.
On the 68th anniversary of creating the Syrian Army, Assad said that this military establishment has a prominent role in protecting the cultural identity of the Arab and Syrian Ummah, "the mother of alphabets and cradle of civilization."
"The army will keep on sacrificing and defending the people who trusted it and stood by its side to defend the homeland," he added, pointing that the people's stance supporting the army is the main stone of success and steadfastness.
"The Syrian army has proved to the whole world that the pressures and conspiracies, even if intensified and diversified, will only increase the army's determination to face the challenges," Assad went on to say.
His comments came after national military reclaimed a key neighborhood of the strategic central city of Homs on Monday in the biggest gain so far of a month-long assault.
The Syrian army launched a wide-scale military operation in April to put an end to the violent unrest in the country.
Syria was hit by the unrest since mid-March 2011, where the Syrian government accuses foreign actors of orchestrating the conflict by supporting the militant opposition groups with arms and money.
