Iranian President-elect sheikh Hasan Rouhani will be endorsed as the Islamic Republic’s president on Sunday in a ceremony which top local and foreign officials are set to attend.

Iranian President Hasan RouhaniIRNA reported that the ceremony will be held at the “Imam Khomeini Mosque in Tehran”, and will be inaugurated with a report by Iranian Interior Minister, Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, on the process of the June 14 presidential election.

“Head of the Supreme Leaders Office, Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani, will read out Ayatollah (Ali) Khamenei’s endorsement decree, then the Supreme Leader will endorse the President-elect and Rouhani will brief his plans and programs in different social, economic, cultural and political areas,” the Iranian news agency stated, indicating that Imam Khamenei will deliver a speech by the end of the ceremony.

According to the agency, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani and Chairman of the Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani will attend the ceremony in which Sheikh Rouhani will be endorsed as the Islamic Republic’s 7th president.

Moreover, IRNA reported that Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General to Afghanistan, Jan Kubis, as well former European Union Foreign Policy Chief, Javier Solana, and Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota will attend the ceremony.

China’s Minister of Culture, Cai Wu, leading a political delegation, Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of North Korea, Kim Yong-nam, Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid, as well as Vice presidents of Tanzania, Comoros, Cuba and Nicaragua have also arrived in Tehran for taking part in the ceremony.

The Iranian news agency added that “Deputy of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), foreign minister of Guinea Bissau and special envoy of the Niger president are also among guests who are already in the Iranian capital.”
