The wounded soldiers were taken to the city's military hospital.

A security source said one conscript was shot in the stomach and the other was shot in the shoulder.

Local security sources attributed the attack to the arrest of the majority of 'terrorists' in Sinai.

The Sinai Peninsula has been witnessing almost daily attacks on army and police facilities since the overthrow of Mohammad Mursi from the presidency in early July, with extremist militants presumed responsible.

As of 30 July, the deadly attacks have left at least 30 people dead, among them police, army soldiers and civilians.

Politically, a cabinet official said that the police would be able to disperse the sit-ins demanding the reinstatement of toppled president Mohamed Morsy in only one hour.

Cabinet spokesperson Sherif Shawqy told local media outlets late Sunday that the police should be left to work on the means to dismantle the sit-ins at Rabaa al-Adaweya and Al-Nahda squares, noting that Mursi supporters are carrying weapons and exploiting women and children to reinforce their sit-ins.

Shawqy added that the government is seeking to end the protests with the least amount of human loss possible, revealing that the cabinet has been negotiating with all political players with regards to how to disperse the sit-ins.

Earlier, Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy had said that the decision to disperse these sit-ins is final and will be applied in accordance to the law. The Interior Ministry had also urged protesters to go home and promised not to pursue the sit ins' participants in court.
