Iraq Wave of Attacks Kill, Injure Dozens

A series of bombings across the Iraqi capital Baghdad killed around 60 people and wounded dozens others

A series of bombings across the south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad killed at least 60 people and wounded almost 100 others, police and medical sources said, extending the worst wave of violence in Iraq in at least five years.

Al-KadhimiyaIraqi officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that a wave of bombings have targeted parking lots, outdoor markets and restaurants in six of Baghdad's predominantly Shiite neighborhoods.

Reports said that the areas targeted included the neighborhoods of Kadhimiya, Sadr City, Shaab, Shula, Jamila and Mahmoudiyah.

The deadliest attack on Wednesday’s morning rush hour was in Kadhimiya, a district in the northwest of the capital, where two roadside bombs and one car bomb took place, according to the sources.

Medical officials also confirmed the casualty figures. No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, yet.
