“When I watched his speech in which he said he would step down, it pained me to see his collapse"
Former Israeli Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer has defended Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, saying his collapse will be “tremendous loss” for Israel. The former army general has praised Mubarak for supporting Israel for thirty years, Israel's Arutz Sheva newspaper reported. “When I watched his speech in which he said he would step down, it pained me to see his collapse," Ben-Eliezer said. He criticized the American authorities for their handling of the crisis in Egypt saying "the Americans still don't realize the extent of the catastrophe into which they have pushed the Middle East." Ben-Eliezer said Egypt's main opposition group, the Muslim Brotherhood, will win if there are polls in the country. He said that there will be a new Middle East if the Muslim Brotherhood wins elections in Egypt.
