The Russian Duma Council issued a statement in which it called on US Congress to refrain from granting Obama an authorization to launch a military strike against Syria and welcomed the Russian initiative on Syria chemical weapons.

The Duma council also condemned the plans set by the U.S. and other countries to strike a sovereign state without authorization from the UN Security Council.

"Syria strike may threaten the nuclear and the chemical security in the Middle East and will lead to further civilian victims as well as to infrastructure destruction, accordingly to a humanitarian disaster," the statement read.
