Tony Abbott has been sworn in as Australia’s prime minister after leading the Liberal-National coalition to victory in the federal elections on September 7.
Abbott, who was sworn in by Governor-General Quentin Bryce, announced his 19-member cabinet on Monday.
The new prime minister has already drawn controversy for selecting Foreign Minister Julie Bishop as the only woman to serve on his cabinet, although Abbott said the group was “one of the most experienced incoming ministries in our history.”
He promised an “action day” following the ceremony and told the public that his staff was already at work on legislation to repeal a carbon tax.
