A gunman has killed on Wednesday the head of the election commission in eastern province of Afghanistan, an official said.
The gunman on a motorbike shot Amanullah Aman in the chest when the official was collecting rents from shop owners in a bazaar in Kunduz city where he owns property.
Aman died about half-an-hour later in a hospital.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Earlier this week the Afghan election authorities started accepting nominations for the presidency and provincial council seats.
