Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday the Syrian opposition is resorting to provocations in order to stimulate the foreign military intervention.
"Moscow is to submit the evidence presented by Damascus to the Security Council which confirms the chemical weapons use by the opposition," he said.
"We have sufficient evidences proving that the news on the use of chemicals reflect the Syrian opposition resort to provocations on a continuous basis in order to stimulate strikes on Syria," Lavrov told reporters during his participation in the Valdai International Dialogue Forum.
The Russian top diplomat pointed to the existence of many articles on this matter can be found online, adding that they are also included in the report prepared by Russian experts on the use of chemical weapons during the Aleppo attack in March.
"The Deputy Sergey Ryabkov is in Damascus for talks with the Syrian government in order to ensure the strict implementation of all the decisions taken by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (regarding Syrian chemical arsenal)," he stated.
"During these talks, the Syrian authorities have delivered to him materials which emphasize the provocative nature of those events (Ghota attack on August 21)," Lavrov confirmed.
The Russian minister made it clear that he has not yet seen the file, but stressed that the Russian experts will review it and will be delivered to the UN Security Council.
"We also have information indicating the occurrence of several attacks similar to what happened in the Ghota, and we'll look into all of that in the United Nations Security Council in addition to the UN inspectors report," he said.
Lavrov stressed, however, that the inspectors' report confirms that a chemical weapon has been actually used, but determining who is responsible for it is still a listed task.
