British newspaper reveals a 2003 ’Whitehall Strategy Document’ Stipulating that Iraqi oil was the central plan in invading the country.
Iraqi oil was the central topic in Britain’s plan to take part in invading the country, The Independent newspaper revealed Wednesday.The British newspaper indicated that “the British Government saw Iraqi oil as "vital" to the UK's long-term energy security, and the effective privatization of its oil industry was central to the post-invasion plan for the country.”
“The UK was already working behind the scenes to ensure British companies did not lose out to competitors in the region,” The independent quoted Whitehall strategy documents in 2003.
It added that “Officials cite the oil industry as the first main target when asked to establish where specific prospects for British industry exist and ensure we are properly placed to take them.”
Furthermore, The Independent pointed out that Tony Blair, the then British Prime Minister, had made “£20m through business engagements”.
