Iran President Sheikh Hassan Rouhani said Sunday that Western governments must recognize Iran’s right to enrich uranium in any deal to allay their concerns about its nuclear program.

Rouhani said that should extend to "all rights of the Iranian nation, particularly nuclear rights and the right to enrich uranium on its territory within the framework of international rules".

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also warned the West that it would "regret" any military intervention in Syria, and called for dialogue to stop the war there.

"Do not seek a new war in the region because you will regret it," Rouhani said.

His comments, at an annual military parade, came on the eve of his departure for the UN General Assembly in New York.
