Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday that the spread of terrorism from troubled countries, including Syria, may pose a real threat to the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

"Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization agree on that the situation in Syria can be resolved only by peaceful and political means," Putin said, adding that any foreign intervention "would be a rude violation of international law or aggression, if we speak the language of the Charter of the United Nations."

At the CSTO meeting in Sochi, Putin said it is not permissible for the organization to ignore the issue of Syria.

"The gangs that are active in these countries did not appear out of nowhere and will not go to nowhere. The spread of terrorism from one country to another is totally realistic and may affect the interests of any of our countries ," he stated.

Russian President considered that the recent terrorist attack in Kenya, apparently committed by foreign fighters, is an example of this phenomenon.

He also expressed condolences to all those affected from the attack and to families of the victims on behalf of all CSTO member states, expressing solidarity with the Kenyan people and leadership after this 'bloody massacre'.

Putin recalled that Iraq also witnessed yesterday awful act of terrorism, adding that dozens of people are killed there on a daily basis, not to forget to mention that the situation in other countries in the region is also worrying.

Russian president said that leaders of the CSTO will issue a joint statement on the situation in Syria, noting that it is necessary to reach a common position on this issue during today's meeting.

"Settling the Syrian crisis by diplomatic means is in the interests of all members of the organization," Putin concluded.
