Additional police personnel were injured in the shooting, including 21-year-old Ahmed Hussein, who is in critical condition after being shot in the right calf, Al-Ahram's website reported.
Mohamed Awad Kamal, 32, was shot in the right hand and on the left side of his torso.
The armed assailants fired from a car without license plates, randomly spraying the checkpoint with bullets.
