One person killed and another two wounded at Wednesday dawn when the Lebanese army soldiers opened fire on a passenger van, rode by a man of Baridi family, after he refused to stop at an army checkpoint in Arsal, the National News Agency reported.
The van was smuggling a group of Syrians belonging to Al-Nusra Front from Syria to the Lebanese territories via Arsal. One Al-Nusra member was killed and two other Syrians were injured and taken to the field hospital in Arsal for treatment.
An army communiqué pointed out that the mini-bus "was trying to escape from a checkpoint set in the area despite being warned several times, prompting soldiers to open fire at it.”
The statement added that “one passenger was killed and two others where lightly injured.”
“The remaining passengers fled with one of the injured people while the driver turned himself in to the army."
Lebanon has for long disassociate itself from the Syrian crisis erupted in mid March 2011. However, militants locating in the north of the country try to drag Lebanon to the regional conflict by smuggling weapons and gunmen into and from Syria.
