Turkish President Abdullah Gul said his country welcomes the US-Russia deal to destroy Syria’s chemical weapons.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Gul said there was no pressing issue “than the situation in Syria.”
"Turkey welcomes and firmly supports the US-Russian agreement to eliminate Syria’s arsenal of chemical weapons."
"We cannot forget that chemical weapons were used against Syrian civilians only a month ago," Gul highlighted.
"The perpetrators of this crime against humanity must be held accountable and be brought to justice," he added.
The Turkish president also slammed the UN Security Council for “failing to uphold its primary responsibility in this case.”
"We must devise and enforce a political strategy led by P5 and the neighboring countries," Gul said.
