According to preliminary data, Derbent criminal ringleader Sherif Akhmedov may be among them, the information center of the National Counterterrorism Committee told Interfax.
The militants were reportedly acting in the Derbent and Tabasaran districts of Dagestan and the town of Derbent within the Abu-Seif gang.
A wife of one of the gunmen was among the people killed in Derbent, a law enforcement source told Itar-Tass.
