Al-Wefaq Condemns Aggravating Judiciary Sentences, Considers Them ’Political’

The Secretary General of the Islamic Wefaq association Sheikh Ali Salman considered that the package of the aggravating sentences against the opposition members reflect the unfair trials that all the detainees were subjected to.

Sheikh Salman also said that all the confessions taken under torture are invalid.

"The trials are in the context of the political battle," Sheikh Ali Salman asserted.

"The Bahrainis need  a fair and just judiciary system," he added.

13 Human rights organizations criticized the Fourth Criminal Court which is headed by the Speaker's son, noting that it contradicts with all the standards of the judiciary independence.

They also stated that the court ignored the detainees' testimonies about the torture they suffered from and did not investigate their allegations.

A Bahraini court on Sunday sentenced 50 people to up to 15 years in jail, including a prominent Iraqi cleric, for forming an opposition group, a judicial source said.
