Mahdi Mohammad Yaghi was martyred on the 31st of July, 2013 while performing the sacred duty of Jihad.
The martyr had a charming look which captivated everyone who saw him, but this was not a unique feature in him, for this has been the case of heroes who have fallen on the sacred path of resistance for decades.
They all share the feature of captivating the hearts of people, not just with their glorious looks, but with their emotional yet balanced words that enter the heart and stay in mind as a lesson and a reminder of the goodness that still exists in the world.
Many martyrs have fallen lately while performing their sacred duty of Jihad, and each of them had a certain influence on people, urging them to reconsider their choices in life.
They have simply played the role of ideals, entering deeply into people’s lives, and their influence on them was more of the influence of someone they knew for a long time.
This is the case with all martyrs and this is the honor that Allah has granted them.
In the past couple of days, a spontaneously recorded will for martyr Mahdi Yaghi was broadcast over Youtube, but in no time it was viewed by thousands and people started talking about Mahdi like they knew him for ages.
Besides his charming look, Mahdi had a modest, natural and enchanting spirit which appeared in the will and was seen as rare at our time.
His will was widely spread around social media, and his picture was on people’s pages with the words “you are the most beautiful dream”.
People were inspired by the simplicity in Mahdi, who occupied their minds, leaving them wondering about the secret within this young man, who kept on captivating hearts even after his departure.
Hasan Nassour wrote for As-Safir on the 2nd of October 2013 an article under the headline "Mahdi's Will":
We did not know Mahdi. Now we know everything about him. The last will got him out to the public. The message and its shooting’s backstage were widely spread around social media websites in the past couple of days. This young man no longer exists. But we do (unfortunately). In this field, the story is not about a video, as this is the case of thousands of resistance fighters who record their wills. The story is in Mahdi Yaghi’s uniqueness, without him intending to reveal that. The story is in the shocking captivating spontaneity. In the normal words on details about daily life, which’s essence is lost when talking about slogans of the eternal conflict between good and evil, and right and wrong. In these short minutes leaked on “Youtube”, Mahdi speaks about what we should really grieve over. The young man spoke with weariness. The weariness of a living which has never been idealistic for departing people like him. He talks to us with the sharp yet soft Beqaa accent on one hand, which has no power but to speak straightly and evidently in front of the camera. They are the words that lack order but attract emotions with their least.
Mahdi’s facetious and simple dictionary closes the door on long statements. It urges the mind to ask about the nature of the young man fighting in the ranks of the resistance. A simple question which’s answer could remove the thick layer covering the real image of those men, which has been converted in the mentality of the dominant media. In short minutes, Mahdi brings himself, and his friends, out of the clichés “rigidity”, “inclusiveness” and “Ideology”. He talks about playing cards, his father’s struggle for a living. He asks his mother not to be over complimentary if “Al-Manar” interviews her. He talks about his complete ignorance in syntax. He tells us that he got engaged because he does not like to follow girls on the street. He entrusts his fiancé to carry out what they have agreed on. He asks everyone who knew him to forgive him, more than once. With Mahdi, answers are simple, transparent and realistic to an unusual extent… don’t talk about politics and don’t argue anyone. Don’t engage in a TV interview to justify “Hezbollah’s” participation in the war in Syria. Words are in a different field now. They are referring to a language that does not resemble the one on TV, which people like Mahdi has no direct concern with.
We know many people like Mahdi. They are normal people living among us. They have not read large numbers of books. They are close and everywhere, and of course they don’t wish to die. “I neither want Hur Al-Ein nor the world”, Mahdi said sarcastically, yet it was an indication to his desire and pattern of thinking. As he is heading towards possible death, he talks about life with the simplest way. He addresses the mother, father, neighbors and fiancé. In this video, there is deep sorrow of the kind which forces the viewer to take a deep breath and hold back his tears.
For her part, Nisrine Idriss Qazan wrote for Irth Al-Shahada website on the 16th of August, 2013 an article under the headline “Happy for Him”, in which she talked about martyr Mahdi Yaghi’s mother and friends.
The writer talked about the strength which Mahdi’s mother received the news about his martyrdom with:
… She was the only one speaking with excess fluency… She had a strong tone of voice… loud… but despite that, she could not hide that sad tone which carried tears taking away her breath.
Why are you standing like this!! She told them, while each one of them was looking for a corner to hide their tears in… yes! They were crying… and rare are the men who know how to cry…
Here, on this balcony, they used to sit, talk, laugh and joke… and if they listen carefully now, they might hear his voice and laugh, and see the brightness of his beautiful eyes…
Again she says: “Why are you standing like this? You are late for the evening gathering with Mahdi! Come on, go and gather with him, don’t you remember how he used to wait for you to gather here… he constantly told you that he loved this beautiful gathering, so don’t be late… he is waiting for you… go, I have ordered a cake, and I will take it to you as soon as it arrives…”
They walked… they did not know whether the road was actually long or their hearts were pushing their steps back to keep them away from reaching him… for this date does not resemble the other dates…
They stood and stared, approaching him slowly… they sat on the wet sand… and poured their pains… for Mahdi did not receive them with his usual greetings… and his peals of laughter were not heard… their moonlight is now in his grave… a smile covered his face and his eyes were not closed as he left this world, because they did not see any of its destruction… Here are his friends gathering around his grave on his second night in his new house… Only minutes later, the cake which the mother sent arrived… it is on the honor of her martyred son…
Mahdi was martyred on the anniversary of Prince of Believers’ (Imam Ali Bin Abi Taleb) martyrdom… and when they told his mother, she uttered trilling cries of joy and showered his body with roses and rice, along with the chants “at your service o Zainab”…
A lady approached her and told her: “Lucky you, how patient you are!”
His mother looked at her with tears in her eyes: “I’m not patient… I’m happy…” she sighed with one tear coming out of her eye “happy because he wanted that… happy because he is happy… victory requires blood, and if we did not sacrifice our blood then who would?!”
