The road was reopened on Sunday night, state-run news agency along with the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights which is based in London, reported.

SANA said troops "broke the siege," which had prevented supplies from reaching the provincial capital of Aleppo, Syria's largest city and once its commercial hub.

People have been suffering from a strict siege imposed by armed groups in Aleppo.
It was closed since August because of heavy fighting between government forces and the armed groups.

The event comes as Syrian army advanced in several surrounding villages, with last week government troops retook the strategic town of Khanaser.

The Syrian national military launched a wide-scale military operation in May 2013 in the country's main provinces to restore security and release citizens from terrorist threats.

Syria was hit by a violent unrest since mid-March 2011, where the Syrian government accuses foreign actors of orchestrating the conflict by supporting the militant opposition groups with arms and money.
