"The detainees are prevented from marking Ashura ceremonies," the association reported on its website.

It is worth noting that the practices of the prisons authorities violates the Bahraini prisons law guarantees the right of the prisoners to practice religious rites.

"These measures assert the sectarian targeting that is adopted by the regime against the large scale of the society," al-Wefaq added, "This underlines that the regime fights the religious freedom."

"The arbitrary measures against the detainees are numerous, including the cruel treatment and deprival from medication."

"The detainees' suffering is due to political issues," al-Wefaq emphasized.
