Lavrov: Russia against Foreign Intervention in Libya

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov assured that his country will not back a UN decision that would escalate civil war in Libya.

Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov assured that his country will neither back nor take part in any UN Security Council plan that calls for further foreign intervention in Libya.

In comments on the Interfax news agency, Lavrov indicated that there is no current discussion on releasing new resolutions on the conflict. However, he stated that "if it leads to a further escalation of civil war through one method or another, including foreign intervention, we will not be able to support it."

On the other hand, the Russian Foreign Minister pointed out that Russia would back a UN decision if it “calls for an immediate end to all violence, bloodshed, the use of force, military action, and calls on all sides to immediately sit down at the negotiating table”.
