Lebanon: former minister of interior, Ziad BaroudLebanese former Interior Minister Ziad Baroud stressed Friday that "Baabda declaration renews Lebanon's principles towards the Palestinian cause," and that continuing the implementation of Taif Accord renews the constitutional fundamentals."

Baroud explained that neutrality means - in language - the lack of tendency to any party, and that the positive neutrality is an attribute given to a country that abandons any war. However, it means in the dictionary of Lebanese politics a form of permanent conflict."

During a seminar at the Phoenicia Hotel in Beirut held by Baabda forum entitled "From Charter to Baabda Declaration" under the banner of "neutrality and dialogue for stability and prosperity," Baroud said that "provisions of Baabda Declaration involves a great deal of political and legal accuracy."

"Neutralization , which the declaration mentioned, means freezing. It is an option to be adopted by the state against the policy of axes. Duty of commitment is excluded from neutralization in politics," he elaborated.

The former minister pointed out that "the neutralization, upon which Baabda Declaration calls, is the position of Lebanon 's foreign policy so as not to miss Lebanon on the table of decision making It is also the result of acute tugging. Neutralization towards abroad is towards the inside as well."

"Neutralization is part of interoperability. It does not require a constitutional amendment. Baabda Declaration remains means and not an end, but a safety internal net. It keeps the role of Lebanon in supporting the Palestinian legitimate cause. It does not cancel the legitimate right to resist the occupation. Baabda Declaration is made in Lebanon," Baroud concluded.
