Gunmen on motorcycles Tuesday shot dead at least four policemen and wounded two others in a southern Pakistani city, police said.

The four policemen, on a routine patrol, were shot dead by armed attackers on motorcycles in the Latifabad neighbourhood of Hyderabad, senior police official Irfan Buhadar told media outlets.

The second shooting took place in the Sakhi Pir area of the city, where gunmen wounded two policemen and fled on motorcycles, he said.

Buhadar said it was too early to say why the policemen were targeted and nobody claimed responsibility for the shootings.

The government of southern Sindh province, of which Karachi is the capital, has ordered a probe into police deaths, a government spokesman said.
