Having arrived in Tehran Mehrabad Airport, al-Halqi was welcomed by Iran’s Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian and Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hussein Amir-Abdollahian.

Al-Halqi is expected to hold talks with Iranian officials on Syria crisis.

He had already arrived in Tehran in August, meeting with Iran President Hassan Rouhani.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister says the Islamic Republic is ready to employ all its political capacity along with other regional countries to help resolve the crisis in Syria.

He also stressed that Tehran will take part in the Geneva II conference on Syria if invited unconditionally.

Iran believes that only “a political solution” can end “the very tragic situation in Syria,” Zarif told reporters after the 21st Meeting of the Council of Ministers (COM) of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Tehran on Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the long-delayed Geneva II conference aimed at resolving the conflict in Syria will be held on January 22, 2014.
