Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonino is to visit Tehran on Saturday to discuss the latest bilateral and regional developments with Iranian officials, IRNA reported.
She will visit Tehran for two days at the invitation of her Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.
The visit will be the first by an Italian foreign minister in ten years.
In November, Zarif met and conferred with Bonino during his day-long visit to Rome.
Iranian Ambassador to Rome Jahanbakhsh Mozzafari pointed to the important status of Rome in Iran’s foreign policy, and said, “New developments have taken place in the two countries’ relations.”
“Italy is an important country of the European Union and it has positive stances with regard to resolving Iran’s nuclear standoff with the West," Mozzafari.
