Iraqi security forces on Saturday arrested Iraqi MP Ahmed al-Alwani after raiding his home in Ramadi
Iraqi security forces on Saturday arrested Iraqi MP Ahmed al-Alwani after raiding his home in Ramadi, the center city of al-Anbar district in west of Iraq, police said.
At least five people, including Alwani’s brother and guards, were killed in the clashes sparked by the raid, officials said, adding that there were also wounded people.
"Army troops with police special forces were trying to arrest Alwani from his house, but fierce fighting erupted. Five bodies, including one woman, were taken to Falluja hospital," one police source told Associated Press news agency.
A police captain confirmed the details of the raid, while a doctor at the Ramadi hospital confirmed the toll.
Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said this month that the protest site near Ramadi had become a headquarters for Al-Qaeda, and called on legitimate demonstrators to leave.
