Secretary General of Bahrain’s main opposition group, Sheikh Ali Salman stressed that the legitimacy of any rule in his country comes only through elections, as he assured that the peaceful revolution which has been demanding political reform in the gulf island will continue.
During an address in a mosque in the area of Deir, Sheikh Salman said: “Today legitimacy is only because people have chosen you. You can’t say you are a legitimate ruler because you have defeated them or because you have crushed them.”
“How can you rule me? Why are you ruling me? Any person who rules some people will be asked: how you are ruling these people? There is only one answer: because they have chosen me to rule them.”
“This revolution will continue its struggle in order to regain our human rights: Our right to have someone who rules us, our right to have a council that legislates and oversees, and our right to have a government that represents our will… and not a corrupted government which stays in rule for 40 or 50 years and no one can overthrow it”.
On the other hand, Sheikh Salman stressed on the peacefulness of the revolution in order to avoid violence.
