In a joint press conference with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Maliki said that although there may be several hurdles that tacle the way of Genva II, tehre is no alternative., noting that in case this track failed, distarous consequences would strike Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey and the whole world.
"Iraq will participate in Geneva II," he added, "Iraq will also attend a conference on Syria that will be held in Kuwait."
"Iraq has hosted over 200,000 Syrian refugees and will embrace them till the end of the crisis."
For his part, Ban urged the Iraqi government to eradicate terrorism in order to restore peace and security across the country, praising Iraq for receiving the Syrian refugees.
Ban had arrived in Baghdad on Monday and met the speaker Osama al-Nujaifi.
