The opposing UK-based Syrian observatory reported that the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) demolished and removed the shrines from the old, monumental mosque in the northern city of Raqa.

ISIL also imposed in Raqa the veil as well as the congregation prayer at mosques and banned operating music, smoking and posting photos on storefronts.
