"Once again, the hands of treason target a Lebanese region and claim the lives of innocent citizens," said Mikati, imploring all sides to unite for the sake of protecting the country and safeguarding its people.
Prime Minister-Designate, Tamam Salam, condemned the Hermel suicide explosion, describing it as a "terrorist, c
owardly act." He called for closing of ranks and uniting efforts, in a bid to prevent the hands of discord from tampering with the country's security and stability.
Salam expressed his heartiest condolences to the families of the fallen victims and wished those injured speedy recovery. He also urged the people of Hermel to "demonstrate maximum levels of self-restraint and awareness," taking the painful incident as an "incentive to close ranks and rally around the army and security forces, which must exert all efforts to unveil the perpetrators and bring them to justice," he added.
For his part, Sidon Mufti Khalil Susan denounced the Hermel explosion and stressed the importance of unity to face the terrorist series.
