Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Sunday called on the West to seize on the ˈhistoric opportunityˈ to reach a permanent nuclear deal with his country, according to IRNA.
Speaking at a panel discussion at the 50th Munich Security Conference,
Zarif said, ˈThis is a historic opportunity and we need to seize on it.ˈ
Iranˈs chief diplomat reiterated that any final nuclear deal should be ˈbased on mutual respect and equal footing and not an illusion.ˈ
Zarif reiterated that a lasting deal was in fact ˈdo-able.ˈ
He made clear that the western illusion that Iran would actually dismantle its nuclear program one day had ˈunfortunately prevented an agreement.ˈ
Pointing to Iranˈs recent nuclear talks with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the P5 plus 1, the minister said his country has ˈimplemented its side of the bargain.ˈ
He added that any sustainable and permanent solution of the Iranian nuclear issue had to be ˈbalanced.ˈ
Referring to the upcoming nuclear talks later this month, Zarif said,ˈWe go to the negotiations with a political will and intention to get a deal.ˈ
Zarif added he had also a ˈgood meetingˈ with his American counterpart John Kerry on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, focusing on the next steps in the nuclear negotiation process.
