China termed the latest round of nuclear talks between Iran and the six world powers as constructive and would pave the way for a comprehensive agreement.
“This round of talks will help maintain the momentum of dialogue. It also laid a good foundation for negotiation on a comprehensive agreement,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Hua Chunying, said on Friday.
The three-day talks between Iran and the six world powers ended in Vienna on February 20. The talks came after the two sides signed a landmark interim deal in the Swiss city of Geneva in November 2013. The deal took effect on January 20.
“All countries involved in the talks showed willingness to address each other’s concerns in a bid to clear the way for a comprehensive agreement to be reached in the next round of talks scheduled for March 1,” Hue said.
In a joint press conference with EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said, “We had three fruitful and extensive working days and both sides have the feeling that it was a good start for the difficult task we have ahead.ˈ
Ashton, for her part, said, “We had three very productive days during which we identified all the issues we need to address (to reach a final agreement). There is a lot to do. It won’t be easy but we’ve made a good start.ˈ
