Iran’s president Sheikh Hasan Rouhani expressed sorry on Sunday for the time when science had turned to an ideological weapon adopted by Western or Eastern powers as a means for their dominance and hegemony.

Addressed the audience in the 27th Khwarizmi International Award, Rouhani said that although western countries realize the peaceful nature of Iranian nuclear programs, they spare no effort to kill Iranian scientists.

“West has no doubt that Iran nuclear technology is peaceful but killed our nuclear scientists... and that “in conditions of foreign dominance  and dictatorship, the science would no longer find venues for progress,” said Rouhani.

“We were in need of foreigners and they decided whatever they pleased to give us in line with their own interests. That was a period of stagnancy for Iran which lasted for centuries; but fortunately with the Islamic Revolution technology and science revived in Iran,” Iranian President added.

“This is a clear indication that science and technology comes when comes independence and colonialism bids farewell, and a democratic and liberal society flourishes,” he indicated.

Khwarizmi International Award is given annually by the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology to individuals who have made outstanding achievements in research, innovation and invention, in fields related to science and technology. This year president Rouhani will award the top scientists.
