Hezbollah issued a statement in which it condemned the Hezbollahsummoning of colleague Ibrahim Al-Amin by the Public Prosecution because of his articles that criticized the Lebanese president.

The statement called on the competent authorities to undo this hasty action and stressed supporting al-Amin, adding that the public liberties must be respected away from the measures of repression.

The statement also said that "the official authorities in Lebanon from time to time deal in a malicious, arbitrary and unfair way, adding that this contradicts with the most basic rights of the citizens, including criticism and freedom of expression as well as the rights of journalists to write freely and to criticize the authorities and the officials.

"This can be in the framework of accountability that forms the core of the work of the press and media and the essence of a democratic system."

The statement also noted that the referral of Mr. Ibrahim al-Amin's article to the Public Prosecution reflects the poor performance and impatience of the state officials who disrespect the public liberties.

It is worth noting that Mr. Ibrahim al-Amin, the chief editor of Al-Akhbar newspaper, wrote two articles in which he criticized president Michel Sleiman for referring to the “army-people-resistance” formula that had saved Lebanon for years by saying it is a “wooden” formula.
