Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad stressed that the role of Russia is essential and vital in today's world because it restored balance to international relations after long years of unipolar dominance.

During his meeting with a Russian parliamentary delegation that included deputies from different parties, Assad expressed the Syrian people’s appreciation for the Russian support to Syria’s resistance.

“The United States and the western countries do not want to build a real partnership, but to have satellite states subject to its dictates. That is why they are attempting to destabilize the countries that do not comply with their policies,” Assad said.

The delegation members spoke about "the historical relations between the Syrian and the Russian people" and the common denominators of facing the international imperialism and struggling to maintain sovereignty and independence of their countries. The delegation members stressed that the Russian people realized since the beginning that the war against Syria targets independence of its decision, its unity and civilization.

At the end of the meeting, President Al-Assad received from the delegation members a certificate of membership in Peter the Great Academy of Sciences and the academy medal "in appreciation of his defense of his people’s national interests and his efforts to promote the governmental and military capacities.”
